Umbraco 10 reached end-of-life (EOL) on June 16, 2025. This means the version will receive no further fixes, support, or security updates from Umbraco Headquarters and it’s time to migrate your website to a supported version of Umbraco CMS.
Continuing to use Umbraco 10 when it no longer receives security updates can pose a potential risk to your website. It is imperative to keep platforms updated to protect your data, sensitive information, and your end users as new and evolving online security threats continue to pose risks.
We recommend that migrate your website from the unsupported Umbraco 10 to a supported version sooner rather than later.

When was Umbraco 10 end-of-life?
Umbraco 10 reached its official end-of-life on June 16, 2025. It was a Long-Term Support (LTS) release, giving it a longer lifespan than Short-Term Support (STS) versions like Umbraco 12.
The Umbraco 10 timeline:
June 2022: Umbraco 10 was released
December 2022: Support phase began
June 16, 2024: Security phase began
June 16, 2025: End-of-life for Umbraco 10

Can you use Umbraco 10 after the end-of-life (EOL) date?
Technically, yes. However, it’s not recommended. While it’s possible to remain on an unsupported version of Umbraco, instead of migrating to a supported version, this can do more harm than good.
Your site becomes vulnerable to security risks
Without current security updates and patches, your website is at risk of potential cyberattacks. This can result in non-compliance with either data protection regulations or industry compliance standards and undermine your brands reputation.
You remain with outdated functionality
Running an unsupported version can lead to missed opportunities and a site that falls short of meeting modern user expectations. Updating to a newer version of Umbraco enables you to use the latest features, improve performance, and utilise editor tools .
You fall behind your competitors
Businesses that stay updated send a clear message: they prioritise security, innovation, and customer experience. If your competitors are on the latest version of Umbraco and you're not, they'll have access to tools and capabilities that give them a competitive edge in functionality and trust.
Upgrading to a new version of Umbraco
The most recent version of Umbraco is not always the most appropriate for your needs. When upgrading, you should consider your existing needs, how long you will need to use the CMS for, and your tech stack.
The current LTS option available is Umbraco 17, and it’s supported until November 27, 2028
Why upgrade from Umbraco 10 to 17?
For most organisations running Umbraco 10, upgrading to Umbraco 17 is now the strongest long-term option. Umbraco 10 reached end of life on 16 June 2025, meaning it no longer receives standard support, fixes or security updates from Umbraco HQ.
Moving to Umbraco 17 gives your website a secure, modern, and long-term supported foundation.
Future-ready foundations: Umbraco 17 runs on Microsoft .NET 10 LTS, giving your website a modern, supported platform designed for performance, security and scalability.
Long-term support until November 2028: As an LTS release, Umbraco 17 provides a longer support window than Standard-Term Support versions, helping you reduce the risk of another major upgrade decision in the near future.
Improved scalability: Umbraco 17 allows the backoffice to run across multiple servers, helping larger content teams and more complex websites improve resilience and performance.
More reliable date and time handling: Umbraco 17 stores and exposes system dates in UTC, making publishing, scheduling, and multi-region content workflows more consistent.
A more modern editing experience: Umbraco 17 builds on the newer backoffice architecture introduced in recent versions, giving editors and developers a more modern CMS foundation.
Better cloud and add-on alignment: Umbraco 17 is available on Umbraco Cloud and aligns with Umbraco’s supported add-ons, including Forms and Deploy, making it easier to maintain a stable, compatible CMS setup.
