Umbraco 10 officially reached End of Life (EOL) on June 16, 2025. This means this version of Umbraco receives no further fixes, support, or security updates– making it time to migrate to a supported version of Umbraco CMS.
Staying on Umbraco 10 when it no longer receives security updates can pose a potential risk to your website and may place you behind your competitors who continually invest in their platforms.
It is imperative to keep platforms updated to protect your data, sensitive information and your end users, as new and evolving online security threats continue to pose risks. I-Finity’s recommendation is that you start the process of migrating your unsupported Umbraco version 10 to a supported version sooner rather than later.
Our Umbraco migration expertise ensures you’re guided every step of the way.
Umbraco 10 EOL: Timeline and Dates
Umbraco 10 is a Long-Term Support (LTS) release, giving it a longer lifespan than Short-Term Support (STS) versions like Umbraco 12. Umbraco remains committed to providing a secure open source content management system where the time for version 10 has come to an end.
Here’s a breakdown of the key phases:
- Umbraco 10 was released in June 2022.
- Support phase began in December 2022.
- Security phase began June 16, 2024.
- End-of-Life – the final cut-off –June 16, 2025.

Can you use Umbraco 10 after the End-of-Life (EOL) Date?
Technically, yes – but it’s not recommended best practise. While it’s possible to remain on an unsupported version instead of migrating to a supported version, this can do more harm than good.
Your site becomes vulnerable to security risks
Without current security updates and patches, your website is at risk of potential cyberattacks. This can undermine your brand’s reputation and may result in non-compliance with either data protection regulations or industry compliance standards.
You remain with outdated functionality
Running an unsupported version can lead to missed opportunities through enabling latest features, improving performance and utilising editor tool improvements. The result? A site that falls short of meeting modern user expectations.
You fall behind your competitors
Businesses that stay updated send a clear message: they prioritise security, innovation, and customer experience. If your competitors are on the latest version of Umbraco and you're not, they'll have access to tools and capabilities that give them a competitive edge in functionality and trust.
Why Upgrade Umbraco 10 to 13?
Umbraco 13 EOL: December 14, 2026
It is a simpler upgrade path from Umbraco 10 to 13, there are very few breaking changes therefore it should definitely be considered as there are other benefits to be gained.
Choosing an Umbraco upgrade from 10 to 13 gives you access to a long-term supported platform with additional technical advancements:
- Future-proof foundations (built on .NET 8): Rapid performance, smoother cross-platform compatibility, and new features that help developers work more efficiently behind the scenes - all thanks to Microsoft’s latest technology stack.
- Easier integrations: Webhooks allow your website to communicate with other systems automatically when someone fills in a form or you publish a new page.
- Better content delivery: An updated Content Delivery API lets you pull only the exact content you need, making your website faster for users and easier to manage.
- Efficient multi-site management: If you're running multiple sites, Dynamic Roots helps your CMS instantly understand which site a visitor is trying to reach.
- Increased editorial control: Use structured “blocks” inside the Rich Text Editor, making combining written content with structured layouts easier.
Alternative Upgrade: Umbraco 15
Umbraco 15 EOL: November 14, 2025
This Short-Term Support (STS) option lasts until November 14, 2025, but has several positives over Umbraco 10 and, even, Umbraco 13.
- Modern tech stacks (built on .NET 9): Microsoft's upcoming .NET 9 platform brings faster performance, stronger security, and optimised scalability for growing sites.
- Leaner caching system: HybridCache uses memory efficiently, helping your site load more quickly for users and editors.
- Language management: With support for multiple languages and block-level variations, you can fine-tune content in each language without extra hassle.
- New editing experience: The upgraded Tiptap Rich Text Editor provides a cleaner and smoother experience when writing or formatting content.
- Smarter, more secure API access: You can now separate regular users from API users, making integrations with other platforms (like CRMs or payment gateways) more secure and easier to manage.
The upgrade path from Umbraco 15 to 16 again is a smooth and easy upgrade, at I-Finity we recommend following the incremental upgrades between versions to keep your instance of Umbraco up to date. This approach to incremental upgrades is more cost effective whilst keeping your website in line with modern standards.
